I recently made a wedding cake for the lovely Laura Gooch and her husband Richard. Laura and I worked together a while back when I wrote the Brighton Argus’ Property and Interiors Guide – she subbed it, basically turning my words and pictures into lovely magazine articles. Thankfully she and Richard loved my cake too, not just my writing!
I took some pictures at the time and they are in my gallery but I am no professional when it comes to photos and I never saw the finished product when the fresh flowers were put on top.
Fortunately, another ex-Argus employee came to my aid - the very talented Paul Fletcher who took all the wedding pictures and below are the wonderful results.

A slightly dull post I know but Pink Rose Cakes is now accepting credit and debit card payments for all our lovely cakes which should make it even easier for you to buy them for your loved ones and their special occasions.

Finally, I have managed to get a hold of my most insane cake to date, which incidentally was a blast to make. It is a sinking cruise ship on the bottom tier with lots of sugar figurines, a pink and black basque make up the second and third tiers, the fourt tier is a pork pie and the top tier is a VW Camper Van.
My mum and step dad threw a joint 60th birthday party at the Burlington Hotel in Worthing and this cake was for them. As I think I have said before it isn’t often I get carte blanche with a cake but this was one of those occasions and as you can see we really went for it!
Suffice to say everyone loved it as well as the cakes inside which were chocolate, lime and coconut, carrot and fruit.

I thought I had better get on the old blog and update it as I have been rather lazy of late and haven’t bothered – well primarily because there hasn’t been an awful lot new to say.
But ta da! I now do have something to say! Pink Rose Cakes will be exhibiting at the Metropole Hotel in Brighton on Sunday alongside the wonderful Kim Ryan from Plum Catering. I will have a new cake there, one not featured on the website which will be a combination of elegant, classic and timeless with a little bit of modern pzazzz about it.
This week I will be mainly working on a cake with an icing champagne bottle and one shaped like a book with bits exploding out of it. I have also just taken an order for a Dita Von Teese-style cake which I am very excited about – it’s going to be all black and boudoir which should look very cool.
I am still waiting for piccies of my parents’ 60th birthday party for which I did the cake which you might say was Fay’s folly – a really eclectic mix of cakes and designs which they are only the ones who would probably let me do it. You’ll see what I mean when I finally post the pix!

The week before last I baked a cake for my other half’s company to raise money for the Haiti earthquake appeal. His company Equus Independent Financial Management was holding a day in which all members of staff were bringing in baked goods to sell.
I had a lot of cakes on that particular week and on Thursday morning he asked me if I could still do it for him for Friday, yes the next day.
As it was I managed to bake it ice it and decorate it in less than five hours from start to finish beginning at about 5.30pm on Thursday night and finishing sometime after 10pm. It wasn’t perfect by any means but it wasn’t a bad effort considering the short time to make something from scratch!
Here is the result below

Equus IFM Charity Cake
It was a 10″ square carrot cake sandwiched together with vanilla buttercream and was swiftly polished off by everyone in the office.
Having said that, apparently plenty of people helped themselves to a slice without actually paying so the cake only raised £18. Shame on you for those of you who didn’t contribute and I hope, given you all work for a big financial brokerage, you all give generously to the cause anyway!

Hurrah, I finally got my laptop back and it is now functioning properly again, no thanks to Maisie and her tea-throwing antics.
The lovely bods at Market Kitchen have also agreed to pay for the damage to my cakes so I shall be repairing them soon.
And on February 28th I will be showing my cakes along with lots of tasty samples at Lansdowne Place Hotel in Hove.
As usual I have a million and one things to do and have yet to do them but will be uploading some new photos soon

Above is a picture of a lovely suitcase cake I did for a client recently in West Ham Colours and with handpainted “travel stickers”
I also recently had a spot on Sky News in a piece about the rise in divorces with my divorce cakes forming part of the lighter relief bit. Unfortunately I was only able to show them a couple of cakes as I also recently lent some of my examples to Market Kitchen and when they were returned they were completely broken. One I have salvaged but the other is beyond repair and needs to be completely rebuilt for scratch. Funny how since contacting Market Kitchen producers about it they have gone strangely silent….The matter s being pursued though so watch this space.
At least though, that’s the last time I ever lend my cakes out without a cast iron guarantee they will come back in one piece!

Hello and welcome to Pink Rose Cake’s first blog post in 2010! After all the publicity surrounding our divorce cakes in November and December, which literally went global, business is ticking along nicely. I am currently working on a range of “off the shelf” divorce cakes which I eventually hope to be able to ship to customers so keep watching this space.
In the meantime we are also working on a new range of model cakes to show off different styles and ideas available. There will be a real mix of simple and elegant designs, along with more show stopping piece in a whole range of colours.
I flicked on to American cake goddess Colette Peters’ web site the other day. She is a true genius when it comes to cake design and it has certainly provided me with plenty of inspiration for ever more weird and wonderful cakes.
Finally, check out the divorce cakes on Market Kitchen on UKTV Food on January 21st.
